PetPartners offer both accident-only and accident and illness plans. The accident-only plan covers only conditions that stem from an accident. The accident and illness plan covers surgeries, diagnostic tests, hospitalizations, allergies, prescription medications, behavioral problems, and alternative care such as holistic treatments.
PetPartners offers a lot of customization options for its plans, so estimating pricing can be tricky. It’s important to note that pet insurance premiums are based on the breed of the dog or cat and their home zip code, among other factors. Policies are underwritten by PetPartners’ partners at the Independence American Insurance Company, and in WA, the American Pet Insurance Company.
For a 3-year-old labrador retriever, basic accident and illness coverage with a $1,000 deductible, 70% reimbursement rate, and $2,500 coverage limit costs $23.02 per month. For the same pet, coverage with a $100 deductible, 90% reimbursement rate, and unlimited coverage costs $81.17 per month. These rates are based on a New Jersey zip code.
You can also add upgrades to your plan for additional coverage. For example, reimbursement for exam fees costs $5 per month and reimbursement for euthanasia and burial fees costs $2 per month. Preventative care plans start at $17 per month without dental coverage or $29 per month with dental coverage.
Depending on your state, PetPartners gives you the option to cancel your coverage and receive your money back within 30 days of signing up, as long as you have not submitted a claim.
The accidents and illness plan does not cover preventative care, exam fees, pre-existing conditions, congenital conditions, or hereditary conditions. You can add coverage for exam fees and preventive care when selecting your plan options, but you will need to contact PetPartners for a rider if you want to cover hereditary or congenital conditions.
It’s also important to note that PetPartners only offers accident and illness plans for pets under 9 years old. Once your pet turns 9, any existing illness coverage will be terminated.
PetPartners offers policies with a waiting period of 2 days for accidents, 14 days for illnesses, and 180 days for cruciate ligament conditions.
You can customize your coverage limit when choosing your plan. Coverage limits range from $2,500 to unlimited.
You can choose a reimbursement rate from 70% to 90%. You can also choose a $100, $250, $300, $400, $500, $600, $750, or $1,000 deductible.

To file a claim, you must print out a form from the PetPartners website and email or mail it in along with a copy of the invoice provided by your vet. PetPartners typically processes claims within 14 days, and all reimbursements are sent as a check through the mail.
If you need help filing a claim or have questions about your policy, you can get in touch by phone or email from 8:30 AM to 8 PM (EST) Monday to Friday or 10 AM to 3 PM Saturday. PetPartners also has a 24/7 phone support line you can use to talk to a licensed veterinary professional.
PetPartners offers low-cost insurance plans if your pet just needs basic coverage. The plans are highly customizable and you can choose what upgrades to add if you want additional coverage.
Choosing your plan options with PetPartners is somewhat complicated, since there are many different upgrades and riders available. It’s also important to realize that PetPartners only offers illness insurance for pets up to 9 years old. Once your pet turns 9, they are only eligible for accident coverage and any existing illness coverage will be terminated.
