American Express is one of the world’s largest credit card companies, with more than 120 million cards in circulation. The Gold Card is one of its premium rewards cards that earns Membership Rewards points.
The Gold Card offers 4X points on restaurants worldwide, on up to $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1X points for the rest of the year, and 4X Membership Rewards® points per dollar spent at US supermarkets, on up to $25,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1X points for the rest of the year, and 3X points per dollar on flights booked directly with airlines or on AmexTravel.com. The Gold Card comes with a $325 annual fee See Rates & Fees, but new cardholders earn 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after they spend $6,000 on eligible purchases on their new Card in their first 6 months of Card Membership.

The Gold Card and Platinum Card from American Express are both excellent rewards cards. The Gold Card offers more rewards for dining, while the Platinum Card offers more rewards for travel. The Gold Card has a lower annual fee and may be better for spending on everyday purchases like U.S. supermarkets.
The Gold Card has a $325 annual fee, but its rewards more than pay for this fee for many cardholders. New cardholders earn 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after they spend $6,000 on eligible purchases on their new Card in their first 6 months of Card Membership.
