Overview

Wells Fargo is a Fortune 500 company with a global presence, offering both digital and in-branch services. There are over 70 million Wells Fargo customers across 35 countries. This bank provides a variety of business and consumer services, including personal credit cards.

Among the products offered, the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ credit card is a Visa Signature® card designed to help you earn reward points on your purchases, which you can redeem for travel or everyday expenses.

Suitable For?

The Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ credit card is ideal for frequent travelers. It stands out among Wells Fargo travel credit cards by offering an annual statement credit: spend at least $50 on airlines, and you'll receive a $50 credit.

The Autograph Journey card’s travel perks also includes up to $1,000,000 in travel accident insurance when you book travel with the card, and up to $3,000 in luggage reimbursement if your carrier loses or misplaces your luggage. You’ll also be insured for up to $1,000 (after a $25 deductible) if your cell phone is damaged or stolen during your trip.

Additionally, cardholders benefit from up to $15,000 in travel interruption or cancellation coverage, allowing you to cover hotel costs or travel expenses if your trip is disrupted for a covered reason. In case of emergencies while traveling, you have access to a dedicated helpline.

The card also comes with the Visa Signature® Concierge service. With this, you can book travel, make restaurant reservations, and secure event tickets online or by phone, 24/7. You also gain access to the Visa Signature® Luxury Hotel Collection, which offers upgrades and exclusive deals at participating luxury hotels worldwide.

Other perks include 24/7 roadside assistance, access to exclusive live events, and discounts at participating merchants.

However, be aware that this card has higher interest rates than other Wells Fargo credit cards and comes with a $95 annual fee, making it less suitable for those who carry a balance.

Rewards

The Autograph Journey card allows you to earn points with every purchase, which you can redeem for online purchases, travel, gift cards, or even to pay down your credit card balance.

Typically, you earn one point for every dollar spent, but you can earn more on travel-related expenses: five times the points for hotel bookings, four times for airline tickets, and three times for other travel costs, such as dining.

Additionally, you can earn a bonus of 60,000 points if you spend at least $4,000 within the first three months—equivalent to $600 towards your next vacation.

Application Process

To apply for the Autograph Journey card, you need a good to excellent credit score (670-850). You can apply online, and while you don’t need to be a Wells Fargo customer, existing customers can apply directly from their online banking dashboard.

If you're not a customer, visit the Wells Fargo website and click "Apply Now." Then fill out the online form with the following information:

  • Your name and physical US address

  • Your cell phone number and other contact details

  • Your mother’s maiden name (for security)

  • Your housing status

  • Your income

  • Your employment status

You may add another authorized user if you wish, and should then consent to Wells Fargo’s terms of service.

Once you submit your application, the company will conduct a credit check and verify your income. It can take five to seven business days to receive a decision. After approval, Wells Fargo will mail your credit card to you within seven to 10 business days.

Alternatively, you can apply in person at a Wells Fargo branch.

Help and Support

Wells Fargo provides 24/7 phone support for cardholders, including a dedicated toll-free hotline for international calls and a separate hotline for reporting fraud. With over 8,000 branches, you can also access banking services and assistance in person.

Additionally, the Wells Fargo website offers detailed guides and educational tools, featuring articles on managing debt, improving your credit score, and using credit cards safely.

Customer service reviews are mixed. On Trustpilot, Wells Fargo has a rating of 1.4 out of five stars based on over 340 reviews. Negative reviews often cite long wait times, while some positive reviews highlight quick responses and helpful customer service representatives.

Security

For security reasons, Wells Fargo doesn’t disclose the exact encryption methods it uses. However, the website indicates that its security protocols are advanced and include triple-layer encryption (three separate layers, each with its own unique key).

To enhance account security, Wells Fargo lets you enable two-factor authentication and biometric logins for mobile and online banking. Additionally, you’ll be automatically signed out of your session after several minutes of inactivity to prevent unauthorized access.

Your Autograph Journey card includes zero liability protection, ensuring you won't be responsible for unauthorized transactions if you report them promptly.

FAQs

What happens if I report my credit card as lost or stolen?

If you think your card is temporarily lost, you can disable it through online or mobile banking. However, you should still report it as missing. If you're unable to recover the card, you'll receive a new account number and a new credit card in the mail.

Can I switch from another Wells Fargo credit card to an Autograph Journey card?

Yes. Just log into your mobile or online banking, select your current credit card, and click the “Switch My Card” option. From there, choose the Autograph Journey card. The company will mail your new card to you, but note that you will not be eligible for the 60,000 reward points bonus or other signup bonuses when switching.

Conclusion

The Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ credit card is a points-based travel card with a $95 annual fee. You earn one reward point for every dollar spent, with bonus points for purchases related to hotels, restaurants, airfares, and other travel expenses. The Autograph Journey card also offers coverage for various travel situations, including lost cell phones, lost luggage, and travel delays.
