Overview

Travelex offers comprehensive travel insurance for almost any family vacation, business trip, or solo adventure. The company’s policies cover travel within the United States and to all but a few countries around the world. Travelex coverage protects against flight delays, lost baggage, trip interruption, medical emergencies, and more. For families, Travelex Select plans also cover kids under 18 at no additional cost.

Suitable For?

Travelex insurance policies are suitable for an extremely wide range of travelers, including both domestic and international travelers.

Families can take advantage of Travelex’s free coverage for children under 18 who are traveling with an insured parent. There are no limits on how many children can be covered for free with a Travelex Select policy.

Unlike other travel insurance companies, Travelex does not have age restrictions on its policies. So, seniors over 65 can use Travelex with no issues.

Travelex is also suitable for individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. These are covered if you purchase your policy within three days of your final payment for domestic travel or within 15 days of your initial payment for international travel.

Travelex also stands out for anyone who wants truly comprehensive coverage. The Travelex Select policy offers up to $50,000 of primary medical expense coverage, up to $500,000 of coverage for medical evacuation flights, and up to $1,000 of coverage for canceled return flights.

Finally, Travelex is a good option for anyone who isn’t sure a trip will happen. You can cancel your trip for a wide range of reasons, including medical events, financial events, or political events in your destination country. You can cancel right up until your departure and receive 100% of your non-refundable trip costs back.

Features/Highlights

Travelex insurance plans cover a wide range of common travel mishaps:

  • Delayed or canceled flights

  • Missed connecting flights

  • Delayed or lost baggage

  • Trip delay

  • Canceled return flights

It also covers medical costs of up to $50,000, evacuation flights of up to $500,000, and accidental death of up to $25,000. Dental coverage is included up to $500 per policy.

The Travelex Select plan also includes add-on coverage options. These policy riders cover adventure sports like rock climbing, offer additional medical expenses or accidental death coverage, and also cover rental car collisions.

You can choose from flight-only coverage, post-departure coverage, or comprehensive coverage options. So, there’s a policy to match every budget.

For a $4,000, 2-week trip to Bolivia by a 35-year-old, we received quotes of $121 for a comprehensive Travelex Basic policy and $187 for a Travelex Select policy.

Policy premiums are typically more expensive for older travelers. For the same trip by a 60-year-old traveler, we received quotes of $189 for a Travelex Basic policy and $277 for a Travelex Select policy.

Application Process

You can get quotes from Travelex for free and apply online. There are no age or health restrictions on who can apply, but Travelex does not cover trips to Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, or the Crimea region of Ukraine.

  • Compare quotes for different Travelex policies and select your desired policy.

  • Enter details about your trip, including your flights, cruise lines, or tour operators.

  • Pay for your policy online.

It only takes a minute to get quotes for a trip from Travelex. The website makes it easy to compare premiums and coverage across the different policy options. If you find a policy you like, purchasing the policy takes less than five minutes.
